Healthcare Technician - Part Time

Healthcare Technician or HCA (Band 3) – Part Time (19 hours/week)

About the Role

Join Optegra Eye Healthcare as an experienced Healthcare Technician or HCA (Band 3) with ward or theatre experience, ideally within ophthalmology, to work part-time (19 hours/week) across 2 days, with flexibility to cover Monday–Friday. This role, based at our prestige private North London hospital, offers an opportunity to build upon your NHS healthcare experience within a supportive and dynamic private healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality ophthalmic care for patients, including quality of service across clinical and administrative disciplines.
  • Collaborate with recognised optometrists and clinical teams in handling outpatient consultations and pre-assessments.
  • Support high-quality patient care throughout their journey in Optegra, ensuring smooth coordination with clinical and patient services.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, including:
    • Biometry, OCT, AScan.
    • Visual fields & eye topography.
    • VA (Visual Acuity), IOP (Intraocular Pressure), and Pentacam.
  • Act as a therapist/attendant during surgery days, ensuring effectively timed communication and patient ease whilst working within theatre settings.
  • Handle and respond effectively to patient inquiries, escalating concerns to medical practitioners where necessary and ensuring service excellence.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care, within your competence level, focusing on communication, comfort, and education for patients.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent healthcare qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in a healthcare environment, preferably eye-care, ophthalmology, welding or EKG.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (or willingness to obtain this credential).
  • Highly organised, with forward planning, efficiency under pressure.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent people skills to ensure empathy with patients during vulnerable moments and recognise stress coping mechanisms.
