Job Role
We're looking for Hearings Officers to support the delivery of Fitness to Practise hearings for the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS). Acting as the public face of the HCPTS, you will play a key role in ensuring hearings are managed professionally, fairly, and efficiently while providing outstanding support to panel members, registrants, witnesses, legal representatives, and other stakeholders.
This is a varied and highly responsible role where you'll work autonomously in both office and external hearing environments across the UK. You'll manage complex logistics, support high-risk and high-profile hearings, and ensure hearings are conducted in accordance with HCPC procedures and legislative requirements. The role requires excellent organisation, sound judgement, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while handling sensitive and often challenging situations.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Managing the day-to-day operation of Fitness to Practise hearings, ensuring proceedings run efficiently and to schedule.
- Acting as the main point of contact for registrants, witnesses, panel members, legal representatives, and other hearing participants before, during, and after hearings.
- Supporting Practice Committee Panels by preparing documentation and assisting with the production and quality assurance of written decisions and reasons.
- Managing complex logistical arrangements for hearings, including identifying and resolving operational issues proactively.
- Providing compassionate pastoral support to vulnerable participants, ensuring they are able to participate fully and fairly throughout the hearing process.
- Working closely with Panel Chairs and Legal Assessors to resolve procedural or operational issues that may impact hearing progression.
- Conducting pre-hearing checks and liaising with internal case management teams and external solicitors to ensure hearings are fully prepared.
- Completing post-hearing activities, including issuing panel decisions, publishing statutory outcomes, and ensuring confidential information is appropriately redacted in accordance with publication policies.
- Ensuring health and safety, security, and data protection requirements are maintained throughout all hearings.
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of HCPC legislation, operational guidance, policies, and procedures to provide accurate advice and support to stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
