Heat Exchanger Technician – Automation & Controls Technician Aberdeen Altens / Washington (Workshop-based role with on/offshore and onsite work available / retainer contract option for non-locals)

About the Role
The Heat Exchanger Technician will inspect, maintain, and refurbish heat exchangers in client sites and workshop environments, depending on operational needs. Working within the wider Heat Exchanger (HTX) team, you’ll support the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of projects—aligning with client requirements, industry standards, and Glacier Energy’s commitments.

Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Strip down, inspect, and reassemble heat exchangers (Shell, Tube, Plate, Motor Coolers, Fin Fans, and Radiators).
- Conduct hydrotesting.
- Manage flange torquing (manual and hydraulic tension).
- Perform tube expansion and plugging.
- Undertake general mechanical/pipe fitting duties.
Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in repairing all types of heat exchangers.
- Expertise in soldering and brazing.
- Strong background in mechanical fitting/maintenance.
- Experience in major petrochemical/refinery shutdowns.
- Ability to read and apply engineering drawings.
- Offshore/onsite work availability.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience on COMAH Tier 1 sites/offshore installations preferred.
- TMJ 10, 18, 19 certifications.
- Valid ECITB – CCNSG Safety Passport or IOSH Working Safely.
- Offshore certification(s).
- Recognised HSE qualifications/IOSH Certifications.
