GTG Training Automotive Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Training Transition Opportunity)
GTG Training is seeking an Automotive Heavy Vehicle Mechanic eager to pivot into a Technical Trainer role. No prior teaching experience needed—we’ll fully train you to qualify.

About the Role
As an Automotive Heavy Vehicle Technical Trainer, you’ll guide apprentices and delegates toward industry-accredited qualifications, ensuring adherence to high teaching standards at our training centre.

While prior training experience is a plus, it’s not mandatory—training will be provided.
Key Requirements:
✔ Must hold proof of a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair qualification or equivalent ✔ Occupationally competent (demonstrated at interview) ✔ Full UK driving licence relevant to the specialism
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Conduct safe, regulated training and education (aligning with health & safety, COSHH, and mandatory policies)
- Use effective teaching methods and training aids
- Support the Team Leader and Automotive Training Manager in enforcing company policy and maintaining trainee discipline
- Track trainee progress, verify underpinning knowledge, and compile documentation
- Assess and evaluate skills (aligning with awarding bodies, OFSTED EIF standards)
- Collaborate on improving training resources with leadership
- Stay updated on technological advancements and vocational CPD
- Provide mentorship/welfare support to apprentices and employers
Essential Skills
- Automotive Maintenance & Repair (Heavy Vehicles) Level 3 qualification
- Level 2 Maths & English (GCSE or equivalent)
- Strong electrical diagnosis expertise and familiarity with modern automotive tech
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Enthusiasm & commitment to upskilling others
- Full UK driving licence
