Join Close Brothers Treasury Hedge Accounting ensure that the bank’s hedge accounting framework is technically robust, well controlled, audit-ready and aligned to Treasury’s risk management strategy. The role supports Treasury in managing interest rate risk and reducing avoidable P&L volatility by advising on hedge structures, maintaining hedge documentation, and assessing the accounting impact of hedging activity. The role is also responsible for supporting accurate month-end and year-end reporting, explaining hedge accounting results to senior stakeholders, and managing audit engagement on hedge accounting matters.
Responsibilities
Hedge accounting technical ownership
- Act as the main point of expertise for all hedge accounting issues within the bank.
- Take ownership of hedging instruments traded by Treasury, checking the accuracy of booking and reporting in the financial statements.
Month-end close, controls, and reconciliations
- Coordinate the key elements of the monthly and quarterly close and regular hedge maintenance tasks, ensuring controls are adequately maintained.
- Manage the overall results of the bank’s hedge accounting processes, including providing explanations and commentary on P&L movements, accounting journals, and exposures to senior management.

Reporting, disclosures, and regulatory submissions
- Take responsibility for financial statement disclosures relating to hedge accounting and derivatives.
Policy, projects, and process improvement
- Review and update the Group’s hedge accounting policy to ensure it complies with the bank’s risk management strategy and proposed hedges.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE/ARE:
- A qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent).
- Proven industry experience applying hedge accounting under IAS39 and IFRS9.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial instruments, including valuation concepts and practical application.
- Good understanding of interest rate and FX risk within a Treasury / banking context.
- Experience collaborating with and influencing senior stakeholders across functions (e.g. Treasury, FP&A, Financial Control).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues and deliver pragmatic solutions.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Driven to identify and implement process improvements.
- Experience contributing to financial reporting, controls, and balance sheet integrity (including hedge accounting impacts).
- Working knowledge of regulatory and external reporting requirements.
IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU:
- Experience with SAP general ledger.
- Experience with Bloomberg.
- Experience with FIS Treasury management system.
