Job Description

We’re looking for experienced HGV Class 1 Drivers to join our chilled distribution operation based in Newton Abbott. In your role as a HGV Driver, you will be operating refrigerated articulated vehicles, delivering and collecting chilled stock from Local and Regional Distribution Centres as well as Farms and Packhouses across the UK.

Shifts: Friday to Tuesday Days (Start time between 05:00 and 07:00)

Salary:

  • Days – Guaranteed annual salary of £40,580
  • Average hourly rate £15.61
  • Guaranteed 50 hours per week
  • Overtime paid at an enhanced rate

What you'll be doing:

  • Carrying out chilled distribution deliveries to local and regional distribution centres, as well as Farms and Packhouses
  • No requirement to self tip, Stores responsibility to load and unload
  • Collecting equipment or returns from customer locations and bringing them back to site.
  • Report to the Transport team at the start of each shift and keep them updated on delays, delivery issues or load discrepancies.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and ensure PODs are signed and returned to the Transport Office.
  • Follow company procedures, including health, safety and hygiene standards.
  • Manage your working time in line with the Road Transport Directive and tachograph rules.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and report defects correctly and take responsibility for your unit and trailer, including temperature checks where required.
  • Maintain a professional standard of behaviour, appearance and customer service at all times.

Qualifications

  • Possession of LGV Class 1 Licence
  • Current CPC
  • Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers’ hours.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
  • Effectively prioritise workload in order to meet set deadline
