HGV Driver – General Haulage | S&R Smith and Son, RM20 4EL

About the Company

Established in 1965, the Lockwood Group is a family-run business with over 400 employees across 8 UK sites. The group operates in:

  • UK haulage and storage
  • Frozen food production
  • Co-packing solutions

S&R Smith and Son, based in West Thurrock (a Lockwood Group company), specialises in general haulage and distribution across the South East of England.


The Opportunity

New business developments are expanding our fleet, requiring experienced HGV drivers to join S&R Smith and Son.

Key Details

  • Location: RM20 4EL (South Thurrock)
  • Fixed address: S&R Smith and Son, West Thurrock
  • Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off
  • Daily Hours: 12-hour shifts (subject to business requirements)
  • Annual Guarantee: Basic pay on average of 42 hours per week
  • Hourly Rate: £16.67 per hour
    • Additional allowances:
      • Early start bonus
      • Night out allowance (if applicable)

Ideal Candidate Requirements

Licences & Certifications

  • HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence – fully qualified
  • Full Driver CPC – valid
  • Working Time Directive (WTD) & Tachograph Schengen Card – proven familiarity

Skills & Behaviour

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Flexible and self-driven
  • Excellent customer service & communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Professional attitude – keep fleets & punctuality peak standards
  • Previous Class 1 experience is *preferred but not essential
