HGV Class 1 Shunter

We are currently looking for HGV Class 1 Shunters to join the team at our Bedford Distribution Centre!

New Drivers Welcome!

Whether you're an experienced driver or have recently gained your HGV Class 1 licence, we'd love to hear from you. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in a busy transport operation, with full support from our experienced team.

Full-time, Permanent

Shift Pattern

4 on 4 off

Shift Times

  • 4:00pm - 4:00am
  • 5:00pm - 5:00am
  • 6:00pm - 6:00am

An HGV Class 1 Licence is required for this role.

Pay Rates

  • Monday to Friday: £18.69 per hour
  • Weekends: £21.31 per hour
  • Time and a quarter paid over contracted hours (minimum 40 hours)
  • Additional £1 per hour for an extra working day

Role Overview

As an HGV Class 1 Shunter, you’ll play a key role in supporting the smooth and safe running of the Distribution Centre operation.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Working closely with Transport and DC teams to ensure trailer availability at the required loading times
  • Controlling yard space and bays to maintain safe and efficient operations
  • Completing audit trails of trailer movements using tracking sheets
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders via 2-way radio
  • Liaising with teams to understand trailer requirements for upcoming loads
  • Monitoring and presenting service and MOT trailers

Requirements

To Apply, You’ll Need

  • A valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence
  • A valid Driver CPC card
  • A valid Digital Tachograph Card
  • Previous shunting experience is preferred but not essential
