HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer
Drainage Engineer (HGV Class 2) – Southern Water Contract
Lanes Group is recruiting for Drainage Engineers to work in 2-person teams across Kent under a new contract with Southern Water.

Job Details
- Position: HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer
- Location: Budds Farm WTW, Havant, Hampshire
- Employment Type: Permanent, full-time (50-hour weeks + on-call rota)
- Salary: £33,000 per annum
- Full training provided, including PPE and company equipment

About the Role
You’ll join Lanes Group’s Utility Division, supporting Southern Water’s waste-water network and drainage challenges through customer-focused solutions. Responsibilities include:
- Traveling in a 2-person HGV team across Kent’s residential areas
- Operating high-pressure water jets for system restoration and maintenance
- Cleaning, clearing and updating drainage networks
- Recording job reports using provided equipment (e.g., VISTEC and Salesforce platforms)
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on drains
- Provide excellent customer service
- Adhere to strict health and safety protocols
- Monitor and refuel HGV equipment as needed
- Ensure compliance with PPE, safe site procedures (including road/pedestrian safety)
- Safely operate JHL vacuum tankers and associated tools
- Including loading/unloading flexible pipework via correct manual handling techniques
- Independently inspect tools, equipment and drains, reporting defects
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments for site access and working conditions
- Liaise with Southern Water on job updates and procedural queries
- Provide colleague support
- Comply with all Lanes Group policies, including lone-work procedures if required

Work Environment
- Unsupervised field work (weather-dependent)
- On-site supervision when required

Ideal Candidate
Core Requirements:
- Minimum HGV Class 2 license with a completed CPC
- Valid digital tachograph card (digital Proof of Qualification)
Desired Skills:
(Not compulsory, but advantageous)
- Experience with high-pressure jetting equipment
- NRSWA or Confined Space qualifications
