HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer – Permanent Full-Time Role

About the Role

We are hiring customer-focused professionals for our Utility Division, working directly with Thames Water to resolve waste-water and drainage network challenges. This is a critical role ensuring Lanes Group maintains its reputation for quality, accountability, and outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate HGV (Class 2) with a two-person team, transporting between residential and commercial sites in the region.
  • High-pressure water jetting for drainage restoration and maintenance.
  • Clean, inspect, and repair drainage systems using specialised tools.
  • Accurate record-keeping on provided specialist equipment (including diagnostics reports).
  • Liaise with clients to ensure updates, improvements, and customer satisfaction.
  • Master health and safety procedures, including:
    • Correct PPE usage.
    • Safe equipment handling (hydraulics, tools).
    • Confined space and ladder safety.
    • Completing daily risk assessments (dynamic based on site conditions).
  • Operate VISTEC and Salesforce platforms for resource management.
  • Vehicle and equipment management, including:
    • Ensuring supplies (hoses, nozzles, accessories) are replenished.
    • Pre-process inspections and post-job safety checks.
    • Logging any defects or malfunctions.
  • Unsupervised fieldwork in all weather conditions, adhering to:
    • Three-point contact rule when climbing/vaulting.
    • Lone worker protocol when required.
  • Manual handling of pipework (e.g. loading/unloading from tanker trays).
  • Safely access vehicles, sites, and offices with proper procedures.
  • Perform degenerative risk assessments and demonstrate a mature, pragmatic approach to risk.
  • Adhere to all Lanes Group policies and fulfil leadership expectations.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc tasks, projects, or complexities as directed by management.

Work arrangement

  • Rotating schedule (4 On, 4 Off) – 40.25-hour week, covering earlies and lates.
  • 24/7 operations – flexible working hours, weekends, and on-call shifts included.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum HGV Class 2 licence (must remain current).
  • Completed Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Valid Digitachograph card.
  • Proven ability to work safely in dynamic field conditions.
  • Reliable, conscientious, and team-ready with a customer-first approach.

Desired (Not Mandatory)

  • Experience with high-pressure water jetting.
  • NRSWA or confined space qualifications (training provided).
