About Bristol Waste Company

At Bristol Waste Company, what we do matters. We keep Bristol and the surrounding areas clean, safe and moving. Working in partnership with the council, we support the city’s sustainability goals while delivering high-quality, value-for-money services. Our commercial operations are growing, and we’re looking for people who share our values and want to grow with us.

The Role

To provide flexible LGV driving and operational support across Bristol Waste Company services and locations. The post holder will safely drive and operate a range of vehicles and associated equipment, support route completion, load, transport and unload waste and recycling materials, and assist with cleansing and other operational tasks in line with service requirements, company procedures, training, licence entitlement and all relevant legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate vehicles and associated equipment safely and legally, including LGV, RCV, commercial and other operational vehicles, in line with company procedures, training, licence entitlement and service requirements.
  • Work flexibly across Bristol Waste Company services, including refuse, recycling, garden waste, commercial, street cleansing and other operational areas where appropriate training has been provided.
  • Provide operational cover across locations including Avonmouth, Albert Road, Hartcliffe and other Bristol Waste Company sites as required by the needs of the service.
  • Ensure routes, collections, cleansing activities and allocated tasks are completed to the required standard, escalating any issues that may affect service delivery.
  • Load, transport, unload and tip waste and recycling materials only at designated and approved facilities, following company procedures, training and all health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks, defect reporting, paperwork and mobile IT updates accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain vehicles, equipment and working areas in a clean, safe and presentable condition.
  • Remain in regular contact with supervisors, controllers and office staff, responding positively to changes in route, task, location or service priority.
  • Deal with colleagues, customers, residents, suppliers and other stakeholders in a polite, responsible and professional manner.
  • Undertake training, instruction and familiarisation required to support flexible deployment across vehicles, equipment, services and sites.
  • Comply with all Bristol Waste Company policies, reporting procedures, safe systems of work and Integrated Management System requirements.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the role, skills, training and operational requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
