Lawsons is proud to be the UK’s largest independent supplier of fencing, timber and building materials. Established in 1921, with over 35 branches and 700+ colleagues across London and the South East, we continue to grow by building lasting relationships with customers and cultivating a supportive team culture. We are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 Hiab driver to join our Colney Heath branch to support deliveries, customer service and depot operations.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on driving role for a competent HGV Class 2 (C) driver with Hiab experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery and offloading of fencing, timber and building materials to trade and retail customers, maintaining vehicle and load safety standards, and representing Lawsons professionally on site.

Working Hours

Full-time, permanent role. Typical hours are Monday to Friday between 7am - 5pm, with 1 in 2 Saturday's working 08.00 - 12.00. Overtime may be required at busy periods; availability for early starts is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Operate a Class 2 HGV with Hiab to deliver and offload fencing, timber and building materials safely and efficiently. Load and secure deliveries in line with company procedures and legal requirements. Operate the Hiab crane for safe unloading at customer sites, ensuring correct use of slings, chains and lifting equipment. Carry out vehicle safety checks, basic maintenance and report any defects promptly. Complete delivery paperwork accurately, including proof of delivery and any customer instructions. Provide excellent customer service, representing Lawsons professionally and courteously at all times. Comply with all relevant health & safety, transport and company policies and procedures, including CDL/PSV rules as applicable. Support yard and branch colleagues when required, including assisting with stock movements and site tidiness.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
