Position Overview
We are recruiting for an HGV Class 2 Hiab Driver in our AVS Guildford branch. This is a permanent, full-time role responsible for:
- Safe and efficient delivery/collection of materials using a Class 2 Hiab vehicle.
- Providing excellent customer service to both trade and retail customers.
- Collaborating with branch colleagues to ensure timely deliveries, secure load handling, and a professional representation of Lawsons.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 07:30–17:00
- Saturdays (1 in 2): 08:00–12:00

Main Responsibilities
- Drive a Class 2 Hiab vehicle while adhering to road traffic & company regulations, ensuring safe deliveries/collections.
- Operate Hiab crane for materials loading/unloading/positioning, following safe lifting practices (e.g., slings, chains).
- Perform pre-use checks on vehicles and Hiab, maintaining permits, licences and defect reports.
- Secure loads properly and match goods against delivery notes, reporting discrepancies/damage promptly.
- Provide professional customer service on-site, liaising with trade/retail clients.
- Assist with yard duties (e.g., loading/unloading, stock movement) as required.
- Comply with health and safety policies, operational best practices, and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate records (delivery notes, timesheets, vehicle checks).
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid UK Category C licence (with CPC and digital tachograph card).
- Essential: Proven Hiab/crane experience operating Class 2 vehicles; familiarity with FASS/NC Hiab standards advantageous.
- Strong practical skills and physical fitness for manual handling tasks under safe lifting policies.
- Load securing/slinging/lifting expertise, with knowledge of health & safety legislation.
- Good communication (customer-focused) and team-based collaboration, with reliability & punctuality.
- Basic numeracy skills for accurate paperwork completion.
