HGV Class 2 Rigid Driver – Peterborough Depot

Working Details

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, days (typical start times: 3am–7am, 10–12 hour days)
  • Rate:
    • £16.54 per hour (paid weekly)
    • Overtime: Time and a half for hours worked beyond 39 per week

About the Role

In this role, you will contribute to the smooth operation of our logistics processes by performing the following core tasks:

  • Supporting the Transport Manager to ensure all functions run efficiently
  • Conducting daily vehicle checks to maintain roadworthiness and compliance with:
    • The ‘Daily Vehicle Check Sheet’
    • The ‘Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness’
  • Reporting any vehicle defects promptly
  • Completing timely and safe multi-drop deliveries
  • Conducting manual and pallet pump truck work for certain drop-offs
  • Ensuring safe and compliant HGV driving, including adherence to:
    • Tachograph laws
    • Driver hour limits
    • Proper loading and securing of goods
  • Checking and printing goods off with customers and obtaining signatures
  • Overseeing vehicle inspection rotas and servicing/MOT reminders, bringing any issues to the Transport Manager’s attention
  • Maintaining DCPC periodic training hours within the five-year requirement

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking candidates with:

  • A valid HGV Class 2 licence and at least 12 months of Class 2 driving experience
  • A full valid driving licence with:
    • Digi-Tacho registration
    • Driver Qualification Card (DQC) in possession
  • Driver CPC requirements met
  • Strong driving skills and knowledge of current Road Transport Regulations
  • Exceptional manual handling (capable of tail lift and PPT operation daily)
  • Experience with multi-drop routes, particularly comfortable driving in London
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a numerical focus on accuracy
