HGV Driver – Skelmersdale DC

About the Role

Procter & Gamble (P&G), a leading manufacturer of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods, including world-renowned brands such as Gillette, Fairy, and Oral-B, is seeking a dedicated and reliable HGV Driver to transport goods safely and efficiently across various locations while ensuring timely deliveries and compliance with all road safety regulations.

This role operates a 4-shift weekly pattern, primarily between Monday and Friday, with occasional weekend coverage. Shift start times typically range between 01:00 am and 06:00 am.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) safely, adhering to all relevant traffic laws and company policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, promptly reporting any defects or issues.
  • Load and unload goods securely, preventing damage during transit.
  • Plan and optimise delivery routes to meet schedules and reduce fuel consumption.
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, vehicle records, and necessary paperwork.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery status or delays.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures.
  • Represent P&G professionally in all interactions.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Valid UK HGV Class 1 driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, and no endorsements for Dangerous Driving (DD) or Drink Driving (DR).
  • Valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC) / CPC.
  • Proven experience as an HGV driver, preferably within logistics or supply chain.
  • In-depth knowledge of driving regulations, tachograph rules, and road safety procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading tasks and prolonged driving.
  • Commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Preferable: References from previous employers.
