Job Description
Purpose of Position
To drive the quality of DPD’s driver workforce through the provision of excellent quality practical and theoretical driver training. While maintaining RTITB qualification status and providing top-quality vocational licence acquisition training, periodic training for existing drivers, and supporting the Driver Training department and wider business through knowledge and experience of the industry and driving roles.
Key Task & Responsibilities
The tasks below are not exhaustive, and requirements may change due to operational constraints or additional business needs.
Operational
- Maintain RTITB Instructor status & quality.
- Conduct LGV C1, C & CE Vocational Licence Acquisition Training to DVSA standard, preparing candidates for all test elements and maintaining the quality expected.
- Ensure all Training records, daily activity reports & compliance checks are completed to the requisite standard at all times.
- Attend DVSA test with candidates.
- Conduct Inexperienced Driver Training on Induction for all inexperienced LGV CE new starters, ensuring sign off for on-road activity is completed with evidence of competency criteria established.
- Conduct Experienced Driver Inductions for all experienced LGV CE new starters, ensuring sign off for on-road activity is completed with evidence of competency criteria established.
- Ensure Driver Training Fleet is maintained & compliant to flagship standards at all times.
- Complete LGV C1, C & CE Assessments where required.
- Complete assessment checks and reports to company standard and ensure communication of results for actioning by relevant departments.
- Conduct LGV CE agency inductions to DPD standard inclusive of vehicle familiarisation & best driver practices where required.
- Complete all required induction checks and documentation and ensure communication of the documents to all relevant departments.
- Carry out inexperienced driver buddy duties for both Transport and Network where required.
- Communicate all issues in a timely manner for actioning by relevant departments.
- Conduct Periodic CPC Training and maintain JAUPT registration.
- Conduct delegated authority assessor training throughout the Network.
- Conduct delegated authority assessments for 7.5t and 18t assessors across the Network.
- Assist with development and training of LGV Trainee Instructors & LGV Assessors where appropriate.
- Conduct vehicle reviews for Fleet where requested.
- Assist with content creation for the driver handbook, training briefings for drivers, periodic CPC, and all other training materials.
- Conduct compliance training with drivers & management where requested.
- Complete all administrative tasks required through the course of employment to an exemplary level.

Financial
- Ensure compliance with all Finance procedures including Expenses Policy.
- Remain flexible to travel at all times to reduce the operational costs of Transport and the wider Network.
Service
- Support Driver Training, Transport, and Network through the provision of timely and accurate training provision.
- Assist to maintain departmental pass rate at annual agreed %.
Health, Safety & Security
- Remain compliant at all times with Health, Safety & Security processes of our sites and customers (where applicable).
- Communicate all relevant Health, Safety & Security information to all drivers during assessment, induction & training.
- Communicate all relevant Health, Safety & Security information to all customers and their employees during site visits and kit training.
Human Resources
- Communicate all relevant company information during assessment, induction, and training.
Key Measures of Performance
- Maintain pass rate over minimum 60% - subject to change based on DVSA published pass rates.
- Successful completion & recording/reporting of all training tasks allocated.
- Flexibility and capacity maximisation.
- Performance Reviews & Training.
- RTITB Training, Qualification & Registration provided - Pass Required.
- Monthly Reviews within Training Rotation.
- Bi-Annual reviews at end of each 6-month Training Rotation.
- Annual Driving Assessment.
- Annual Instructor Assessment.
- Year-round monitoring through Risk Score and available telematics.
- Periodic CPC Training.
- Periodic Instructor Training.
- Training when required due to relevant legislative or company changes.
- All other company training as prescribed.

Qualifications
Required Experience
- Full LGV CE licence with 3+ years experience as a minimum.
- Competency to complete RTITB qualification.
- Clean driving licence.
- Good driving record and compliance.
- Willingness to travel and spend nights away from home.
- Hardworking and Flexible.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills able to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Calm under pressure, and able to multitask.
- IT and Computer literate.
- Ability to work as a team player and on your own initiative.
- Demonstrate the core DPD DNA values.
