HGV / PSV Technician, RECRUITMENT HELPLINE

HGV / PSV Technician – Full-Time, Permanent Role

Location: Manchester M38 Salary: £22.00 per hour (dependent on experience)


About The Company

A long-established, family-run transport business with over 40 years of experience in the industry operates from their modern workshop in Manchester. They maintain and service their own fleet of HGVs and PSVs, alongside a growing customer base.

Due to continued expansion, they are now recruiting an experienced HGV / PSV Technician to support operations.


About The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining, and repairing HGVs, PSVs, trailers and other commercial vehicles. All work must be completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

Key Duties:

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, PSVs, trailers and commercial vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults
  • Conduct Preventative Maintenance Inspections to DVSA standards
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and carry out necessary repairs
  • Repair brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and tipping gear
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve faults effectively
  • Complete workshop paperwork, job cards, and inspection sheets accurately
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
  • Collaborate with the workshop team to minimise vehicle downtime
  • Deliver a professional standard of craftsmanship for both company fleet and customer vehicles

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HGV/PSV Technician
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Good knowledge of DVSA inspection standards
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence (mandatory)
  • HGV or PSV licence desirable, but not essential
  • Welding or fabrication experience advantageous, but not essential

Initially, the role operates on standard workshop hours:

  • Monday to Friday, plus Saturday mornings (rota-based)
    • 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

To support work-life balance, employees can move into an alternative shift pattern on expansion:

  • 4 days on / 3 days off
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Overtime pay: 1.5x after 40 hours for both patterns
