The Role

About This Position

This is a full-time, on-site HGV Recovery Driver role based in the London Area, United Kingdom.

As an HGV Recovery Driver, your primary responsibility is to:

  • Respond to roadside and site-based vehicle breakdowns.
  • Safely recover HGVs and other commercial vehicles.
  • Transport recovered vehicles to designated workshops or locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensure the recovery vehicle remains clean and roadworthy.
  • Secure loads and vehicles in compliance with safety standards and company protocols.
  • Operate recovery equipment effectively, including manoeuvring heavy vehicles in challenging environments.
  • Any call-outs promptly as a tow driver and coordinate with dispatch, keeping customers and colleagues informed.
  • Complete all documentation and submit digital reports accurately and promptly.
  • Perform basic fault-finding and diagnose issues before recovery.
  • Uphold full legal compliance (DOT regulations, UK/EU transport laws) and company policies.
  • Maintain professionalism in customer interactions, ensuring a positive experience.

This role will require shift work, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.


Requirements & Qualifications

Technical & Mechanical Experience

  • Valid CDL Class A (or UK equivalent HGV license) with a proven record of safe truck driving.
  • Experience operating and maneouvering heavy trucks and recovery equipment in diverse environments and conditions.
  • Knowledge of DOT Regulations (or applicable UK/EU transport laws).
  • Proficiency in unloading, securing loads, and handling vehicles safely during transport and recovery.

  • Ability to stay calm and composed under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.

  • A clean driving record with confirmed ability to pass:
    • Background checks
    • Health assessments
    • Fitness-for-duty evaluations

Preferred (But Not Mandatory)

  • Previous experience in vehicle recovery, roadside assistance, or commercial transport.
