HGV Technician
HGV Technician – Joining Bonus of £1,500!
Location: Biffa Waste – Manchester Depot
Salary: £20.59/hour – Shift Allowance Included + £10.00/week Tool Allowance
Shift Patterns
- Earlies: 06:00 – 15:30
- Lates (Mon–Thurs): 12:30 – 22:00
- Lates (Fri): 08:30 – 18:00 Overtime & call-out availability
Working Days: Monday to Friday
About the Role
Have you spotted Biffa’s iconic red trucks and containers? With over 100 years of history, Biffa shapes how the UK manages waste. We’re seeking a passionate HGV Technician to be a vital part of keeping our fleet operational and on the road—ensuring health & safety compliance and DVSA standards are always met.
Among our fleet are:
- Light commercial vans
- Up to 44-tonne articulated specialist assets
In this role, you’ll conduct scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections—taking care of everything from trailers, cranes, and compressors to specialist waste handling units, controls, repairs, and servicing.
We’re looking for experienced technicians with roles such as:
- PSV Mechanic
- Heavy Goods Technician
- Lorry Mechanic
- LGV Technician
- HGV Technician
- HGV Mechanic

Responsibilities
- Carrier out routine & scheduled servicing, repairs, and inspections to ensure fleet safety and compliance.
- Perform diagnostics, electrical repairs, fuel system checks, and pedestrian undoing.
- Maintain full records of all work completed, as required by legislation.
- Ensure adherence to Biffa’s兕 traffic management policies and customer service expectations.
- Engage with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to plan, order, and manage spare parts.
- Work ** Independently or as part of a team** to meet deadlines and priorities.
Requirements
- Qualification: Fully skilled with:
- A full Level 3 HGV/PSV Apprenticeship (or equivalent: City & Guilds/NVQ Technical Certificate)
- Technician qualification
- Driving: Minimum car/van licence; HGV licence desirable
- Experience: Technical background in:
- Preventative maintenance
- Troubleshooting
- Highwayworthiness checks
- Bonus: IRTEC Qualification desired
