Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Bristol & Bath School Without Walls
About the Role Five Rivers is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support children and young people across Bristol and Bath in a unique, outreach-based, and trauma-informed education environment.
As an HLTA, you will work closely with our experienced team in a school that values children’s engagement, decision-making, and personal growth. Your role involves teaching in ACE (Another Chance Education) settings and providing support to children who may struggle in traditional educational environments. Whether working in-class, on-site, or within the community, you will help unlock young people’s passion for learning.
1ACE (Another Chance Education) is Five Rivers’ hybrid education provision, offering support to children and young people who have found mainstream or specialist schools challenging. Lessons take place across Bristol and Bath, with flexible structures to meet individual needs.

- Supporting teachers in-class and community-based learning settings
- Working with young people affected by complex obstacles to learning due to trauma or exclusion from mainstream education
- Acting as both a teacher and mentor, encouraging academic and personal growth
- Facilitating a flexible and responsive learning environment, including outreach sessions
- Collaborating with the school’s leadership team to develop personal professional goals
- Providing vocational, academic, and SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities) support

- Flexibility: Full-time position (37.5 hrs per week, Mon-Fri, 08:30 am - 4:30 pm), but we will discuss part-time or compressed hours if suitable

Requirements
To apply for this role, we require the following:
- Fluent written and IT skills
- Strong ability to communicate with children, colleagues, and external stakeholders
- Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills
- Valid UK driving licence with full access to a vehicle (essential for outreach duties)
- Right to Work in the UK
- Experience or motivation to work with alternative education or therapeutically-based education settings is beneficial but not mandatory — passion for making a difference matters!
- Commitment to a safeguarding-rich environment (DBS check required)
