Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School, Birmingham

Location: Wolverhampton, in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council

Hours & Contract:

  • 33 hours per week
  • Fixed-term contract for 1 academic year (start September 2026)

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and flexible Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support learning across the primary phase at Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide high-quality academic and pastoral support to ensure all children progress and achieve their full potential. This may include:

  • assisting with teaching and learning across all year groups
  • preparing and delivering cohesive lessons in collaboration with class teachers
  • supporting small group and 1:1 interventions for differentiated progress
  • supervising playtimes and lunchtimes to ensure a safe, positive learning environment
  • contributing to behaviour management, pastoral support, and pupil welfare
  • supporting curriculum coverage, including specialist subjects
  • assisting with whole-school events, assemblies, and activities
  • maintaining accurate records of pupil progress and attending feedback sessions

Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • A Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification (HLTA status)
  • Commitment to the Catholic ethos and ability to fully embrace the school’s values
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and families
  • Positive attitude to continuous improvement, with an illustrative willingness to develop professional practice
  • Ability to work flexibly, including covering different year groups or teaching responsibilities
  • Safeguarding commitment: agreement to comply with safeguarding policies and procedures

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in a Catholic or similar faith-based educational setting
  • Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), special educational needs (SEN), or inclusion expertise
  • Experience using differentiated teaching methods and responsive pedagogies
  • Voluntary or additional qualifications (e.g., forest school, PE, music)
