Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Springfield Infant School and Nursery
Location Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 4PP
Salary £28,142 - £30,024 pro rata
Hours 28.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year
Contract Fixed term until 30 August 2027 Start Date: September 2026

About the School and Role
Springfield Infant School and Nursery is seeking an effective, positive, and caring Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their supportive, skilled team.
In this role, you will:
- Work under the guidance of the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator) and teaching staff
- Aid the learning and personal development of children with SEN (Special Educational Needs) by providing tailored support
- Work efficiently 1-to-1 or in small groups to maximise children’s access to education
This opportunity is ideal for qualified HLTAs (Higher Level Teaching Assistants) or qualified teachers taking a career break.
Key Responsibilities
As an HLTA, you will need to:
- Build strong relationships with children and use excellent communication skills to foster a positive learning environment
- Act independently while also working effectively as part of a supportive team
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including judgement, common sense, and adaptability
- Collaborate with class teachers across the school’s three-form entry structure to:
- Raise children’s learning and attainment
- Foster independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion
- Cover or lead designated teaching tasks
- Provide personalised, individual or small-group support to help children engage with the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve success
- Maintain a calm and patient demeanour, supportive of all children’s needs
- Cultivate an enjoyment for learning, sharing your enthusiasm with children
- Value diversity, embracing and respecting the uniqueness of each student
