Location: Tipton, West Midlands (DY4 9BH) Hours: 31 hours per week (including 5 training days) Salary: Grade E (SCP 18–25) – £31,537–£36,363 p.a. (Actual hourly rate: £23,614–£27,811 p.a.) Closing Date: Monday, 13th July 2026, 12:00 noon


About the Role

At St Paul’s CofE Academy, we believe every child deserves the very best early education. We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and highly skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our Early Years and Inclusion team.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support Reception and Key Stage 1, working closely with the EYFS Lead, SENCo, and Senior Leadership Team to maximise teaching quality, learning outcomes, and inclusive practice. A role designed for someone who is committed to nurturing curiosity, communication, and independence in every child.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Reception and Year 1, including whole-class cover when required.
  • Support the implementation of a language-rich, ambitious curriculum to develop:
    • Communication and language skills
    • Early literacy and numeracy
    • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Lead personalised interventions to accelerate progress and close gaps in learning.
  • Foster independence, confidence, and engagement through play-based and purposeful learning experiences.
  • Act as an inclusion champion, collaborating with the SENCo to:
    • Remove barriers to learning
    • Ensure inclusive practices are embedded in daily teaching
    • Support children with additional needs
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with:
    • Families (via home visits, workshops, and consistent communication)
    • External professionals (health, social care, speech & language therapists)
  • Contribute positively to the life of the academy, sharing our school’s faith-based values and vision.

Person Specification

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Must hold HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) status or an equivalent Level 4 qualification.
  • Strong, recent experience working within:
    • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
    • Inclusive environments, particularly with SEND
  • Deep understanding of:
    • The EYFS Statutory Framework
    • Child development (physical, social, emotional, cognitive)
  • First-hand experience with small-group/individualised learning and intervention strategies.
  • Commitment to excellence and high expectations for all children, regardless of background.

  • Exemplary communication & interpersonal skills
    • Ability to model warmth, patience, and empathy
    • Sensitivity when addressing diverse cultural, linguistic, and ability needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication to engage with staff, families, and external partners.
  • Outstanding organisation and time-management skills.
  • Ability to support whole-class instruction and independent learning.
  • Passion for play as a learning tool and active learning strategies.
  • Commitment to care and ethical safeguarding practices.
