Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Sky Vale School
Sky Vale School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly skilled, supportive team in an environment where children are respected, listened to, and encouraged to shape their own learning.
About the Role
As an HLTA at Sky Vale School, no two days will be the same. Your role will include:
- Supporting teachers both in and outside the classroom
- Working with children and young people who may not thrive in traditional schooling
- Following a flexible, creative learning structure to ignite curiosity and build confidence
- Delivering sessions across Bristol in an outreach capacity
- Supporting Ofsted-registered alternative educational provision, including local 1ACE (Another Chance Education) initiatives
Our approach is rooted in trauma-informed practice, supported by a nurturing, therapeutic model, ongoing training, and professional development opportunities.

We are seeking individuals who are committed, resilient, and passionate about making a difference within a values-driven alternative education environment.
Key Responsibilities
Your role will involve:
- Supporting and delivering tailored learning sessions for children with diverse needs
- Providing safe, supportive environments aligned with each young person’s individual requirements
- Contributing to a multidisciplinary curriculum blending academic, vocational, SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities), and therapeutic approaches
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to positive change
Working Hours & Conditions
- Term-time only (in line with local authority dates)
- Full-time (37.5 hrs, Mon-Fri, 08:30–16:30) – Part-time or compressed hours may be considered

Requirements & Eligibility
- Strong written communication & IT skills
- Confident communication with children, colleagues, and external partners
- Exceptional active listening
- Full UK driving licence & access to a vehicle
- Right to Work in the UK
Experience in specialist or alternative education is beneficial, though enthusiasm for supporting young people is equally valued.
