Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapist Opportunity
Due to a maternity leave within our team, we have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled physiotherapist with an interest and passion for paediatric respiratory management to join the paediatric respiratory physiotherapy service.
The acute children’s therapy team is a dynamic team made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and play specialists.
The team sits in the children’s division and provides clinical care across all acute in-patient areas from critical care, wards, day case and outpatients.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessments and management of children and young people.
- Shared responsibility for respiratory physiotherapy input for our children and young people with chronic respiratory needs.
- Provide input in the community to avoid hospital admissions or to facilitate discharge.
- Participate in MDT and physiotherapy lead clinics.
- Develop band 6 rotational therapists and student therapy staff as well as the pathways within paediatric therapies.
- Have a strong working relationship with the paediatric MDT, especially the respiratory consultants and CNS teams.

Key Duties
- Jointly responsible for the management of children with chronic respiratory conditions either as a primary diagnosis (e.g., bronchiectasis, CF, or PCD) or as part of the management of their neurodisability or neuromuscular condition.
- Work closely alongside the LTV and CF/PCD physiotherapists and wider respiratory MDT.
- Act as a source of expertise in the physiotherapy management of children with both complex needs and respiratory complications.
- Provide an advisory and liaison service to patients, families/carers, physiotherapy colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, including GPs and Consultants, within the Northeast London and wider region.
- Primarily based in outpatient and community settings, with a lead role in the Children’s Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Service.
Required Skills and Qualities
- Strong team working skills and flexibility.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Confident in using knowledge of the current evidence base and advanced clinical reasoning.
- Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the outpatient/community caseload.
- Ensure interventions meet the holistic needs of the child, helping prevent admissions or facilitate discharge.
