About the Role
Role: Highly Specialist Dietitian (Band 7 equivalent) Salary: Up to £21,297 per year (DoE) – £53,242 WTE Contract: Permanent, Part-time (2 days per week)
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Highly Specialist Dietitian to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Taunton due to the opening of a new 15-bed neuro-cognitive service.
Service Overview
The Neurocognitive Health Pathway provides comprehensive, long-term inpatient care for older adults living with complex cognitive and neurological conditions, alongside psychiatric sequelae.
The service focuses on:
- Improved quality of life & functionality for patients struggling with their complex needs
- Specialist treatment & therapy to optimise abilities and manage symptoms sustainably
- Stabilising neurodegenerative conditions to reduce complications and preserve independence
- Care delivered in a safe, structured, and therapeutic multidisciplinary environment

Key Responsibilities
- Shape how dietetic input is delivered for patients, balancing small caseload management and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Provide 1:1 dietary assessments, advice, guidance, clinical reviews, unit-based clinics, and possible group sessions
- Create individualised dietary plans tailored to patients' complex needs
- Collaborate closely with:
- Catering team
- Speech & Language Therapy team
- Wider multidisciplinary team (to advise on meal plans, hydration, and feeding regimens)
- Specialize in nutrition management for complex presentations, such as neurological disorders, dementia, and concomitant psychiatric conditions.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential:
✔ Degree or postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Dietetics ✔ Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) ✔ Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) ✔ Experience in supporting patients with chronic illnesses, particularly:
- Weight management
- Diabetes ✔ Strong communication, organisation, and time management skills ✔ Confidence as a team player with a passion for supporting others

Desirable (will provide CPD if lacking):
✔ Experience in neurology or mental health settings ✔ Experience managing alternative nutrition (enteral feeding) ✔ Experience with neuro-rehabilitation or neurodegenerative patients
