About the Role

Specialist Children’s Services – North Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (North CAMHS) at Woodside Health and Care Centre requires a full-time Band 8a Family and Systemic Therapist.

The Family and Systemic Psychotherapy Service

Scope of Practice

Family and Systemic Psychotherapy is a specialist service within Specialist Children’s Services (SCS)/CAMHS at NHSGGC. It offers:

  • Evidence-based systemic interventions for children/young people (up to 18 years) facing complex/multi-system mental health challenges
  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., clinical, non-clinical roles)
  • Consultation, teaching, training, and supervision to promote systemic practice

Key Responsibilities

As a Highly Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist (Band 8a), you will:

  • Lead systemic assessments and therapy for children, families, and multi-agency partners
  • Supervise Band 7 Systemic Psychotherapists in clinical and leadership roles
  • Contribute to service development, research, audit, and quality improvement
  • Deliver multidisciplinary training, education, and consultation
  • Serve as a clinical/leadership role model for systemic practice

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Core

  • Deliver autonomous systemic interventions to complex cases
  • Provide therapeutic support and intervention strategies for distressed families units
  • Maintain para-professional roles with schools, social work, police craft, and third sector

Professional Leadership

  • Supervise Band 7 Systemic Psychotherapists
  • Propose modifications to the Family Group Conference process
  • Support staff learning/development around systemic work

Innovation & Collaboration

  • Engage with child protection/multidisciplinary meetings
  • Contribute to research, audit, and service development projects
  • Promote systemic practice across internal/external partners

Requirements

Essential Criteria

✔ Masters-level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (or equivalent) ✔ UKCP registration as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist ✔ Significant post-qualification experience (minimum 3+ years in systemic public service) ✔ Demonstrable leadership skills in supervision and clinical leadership ✔ Evidence of continuing professional development (AFSP/UKCP compliant)

Highly Desirable Attributes

🔹 AFSP-approved supervisor status (or commitment to achieving this within a timeline) 🔹 Experience in teaching/training systemic practice 🔹 Track record in research/audit projects 🔹 Teaching qualifications or experience (desirable)

Additional Requirements

✔ Ability to travel across NHS sites (driving licence highly desirable) ✔ Willingness to adapt to a shift pattern agreed with management
