Clinical or Counselling Psychologist – Highly Specialist Psychological Therapist (Band 8a, Fixed-Term, Part-Time)
LEO – Band 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist | 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | 2.5 Days (18.75 hrs/week)
An exciting Band 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist opportunity has arisen within the LEO team, focusing on early intervention for psychosis for individuals aged 18–65 in Lambeth. This role is a rare chance to engage in rich, clinically meaningful work, supporting individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis—a nationally recognised and pioneering service within South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust.
The position is part of a wider initiative to improve accessibility to psychological therapy by reducing waiting times. This highly specialist role will primarily involve delivering individual therapy, with opportunities to contribute to other elements of the multidisciplinary team’s work.
About the Role
LEO is a highly regarded, capacity-building team for first-episode psychosis, trusted both nationally and internationally as one of the UK’s earliest of its kind. The psychology service is well-established, with two existing family interventions therapists, and the team prioritises accessibility, equity, and client-centred care.

Funding for this temporary role has been secured to enhance service delivery and increase psychological treatment capacity for those in need.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual psychological therapy, adhering to evidence-based interventions within early psychosis settings.
- Work collaboratively within LEO’s multidisciplinary team, comprising clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and support workers, to enhance patient care.
- Deliver services that reflect values in psychological safety, inclusivity, and wellbeing for vulnerable clients.
- Engage in trainee supervision (if applicable) and support junior colleagues within SLaM’s professional training framework.
- Participate in team meetings, clinical reviews, and collaborative decision-making to optimise service pathways.
- Maintain robust record-keeping and third-party reporting within NHS and Trust guidelines.
- Develop and contribute to novel clinical initiatives, including raising service accessibility and improving waitlists.
