Specialist/Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist – Paediatric Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist/Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our paediatric team.

About the Role

We are seeking a positive, proactive clinician to help build a strong future for our service, with the opportunity to progress into a Highly Specialist role (AFC Band 7) after in-house development. Ideal candidates can also apply as a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist (AFC Band 6).

At the Newberry Centre, our Community-based Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service provides support to children and young people (birth to 19 years) within:

  • Inpatient paediatric wards
  • Homes
  • Schools
  • Community settings
  • Neonatal Unit (experience in this area is welcomed but not mandatory)

You will work with a varied caseload tailored to your interests and expertise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical expertise and mentorship to junior/senior team members.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead to drive high-quality outcomes for children, young people, and families.
  • Manage a complex paediatric caseload, while overseeing staff training and professional development.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement projects, alongside opportunities to develop clinical skills.
  • Work multidisciplinary with teams, including paediatricians, neurodevelopmental specialists, and physiotherapists.
  • Provide family-centred occupational therapy, ensuring care meets the holistic needs of children and adolescents.
  • Exercise excellent prioritisation, organisation, and communication skills.

Requirements & Attributes

  • Strong commitment to paediatric OT and desire to grow within a supportive role.
  • Advanced clinical judgment and ability to work flexibly in a dynamic service.
  • Experience with commissioning planning or interest in shaping paediatric OT provision.
  • Adept at collaborative problem-solving with allied health and care professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and advocacy skills, ensuring OT’s critical role in improving children’s lives is recognised.
