About The Role

EKFB is delivering a major section of the HS2 project, connecting communities and supporting the UK’s future transport infrastructure. The Highways Maintenance Engineer plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of highway networks affected by construction activities.

This position supports the delivery of highways maintenance within a complex, high-profile infrastructure environment, acting as an interface between the Client, supply chain partners, inspectors, and commercial teams. The role contributes to ensuring that all highway assets impacted by works are maintained to required standards, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and stakeholder coordination.

Key Responsibilities Include

Supporting the day-to-day operation of highways maintenance activities across affected networks Coordinating and monitoring safety inspections to ensure compliance with contractual and statutory requirements Reviewing inspection outputs and ensuring timely response to defects, hazards, and third-party reports Validating completed maintenance and repair works to confirm compliance with specifications and agreed standards Supporting audits and identifying recurring defects or trends to inform continuous improvement and asset performance Contributing to the development and coordination of forward maintenance programmes aligned with construction activities Ensuring accurate management of inspection and maintenance records in line with contract and quality requirements Liaising with internal teams, local authorities, and stakeholders to coordinate traffic management and minimise disruption Supporting commercial processes, including alignment of works completed with contract payment mechanisms

This role is critical in ensuring that highways impacted by a major infrastructure programme remain safe, compliant, and operational for the public.

About You

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

Experience supporting highways maintenance or civil engineering works, preferably within a major infrastructure or construction environment Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, and inspection criteria Strong organisational capability with a high level of attention to detail Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders

Desirable

Knowledge of highway asset types including carriageways, footways, drainage, structures, lighting, signage, and landscaping Experience working with defect management systems or quality management systems Familiarity with working alongside local authorities and within a regulated highways environment

This position requires a structured and collaborative approach, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and the coordination of activities within a complex, evolving project environment.

EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high speed rail projects.

EKFB is proud to have been appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. Our scope of the works includes 15 viaducts, 5km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 67 overbridges and around 30 million cubic metres of excavation.
