Highways Maintenance Operative – Permanent Role

Location & Working Hours
Based on-site at Newark Depot, Stephenson Way, Newark NG24 2TQ. Standard hours: 45 per week (Monday – Friday) – rotating day and night shifts:
- Day shift: 7am – 3pm
- Night shift: 7pm – 5am
About the Role
You will join the Area 7 Account with Amey to support National Highways, maintaining over 700 kilometres of roads across the East Midlands. Amey delivers essential services for 4.5 million citizens, ensuring safer and more efficient journeys.
You will work on some of the UK’s busiest motorways and strategic highways, handling up to 180,000 vehicles daily across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of workmanship.
- Attend project and safety briefings as required.
- Drive/operate vehicles and plant, including:
- Vehicle checks and routine maintenance (oil/water checks).
- Cleaning and upkeep.
- Ensure safety compliance, protecting yourself and the public.
- Keep accurate records and complete paperwork.
- Manage pedestrian/traffic signage, drainage repairs, and site maintenance.
- Conduct litter picking, winter maintenance, and incident responses.
- Perform routine safety checks, such as fence repairs, signage installation/repairs.

Essential Requirements

Valid HGV Licence (Class 2).

Experience working outdoors in harsh weather conditions.

Proficiency in highway maintenance tasks, including:
- Carriageway and footway patching.
- Kerb restoration (ironwork replacement).
- Drainage maintenance.

Desirable: CSCS card.
