Highways Maintenance Operatives
Role Overview
Permanent position available for Highways Maintenance Operatives in our Area 7 account, based on-site at Newark Depot (Stephenson Way, Newark NG24 2TQ).
We partner with National Highways to maintain over 700 kilometres of roads across the East Midlands, ensuring smoother journeys for 4.5 million residents. Our teams respond to maintenance needs on some of the UK’s busiest motorways and highways, supporting up to 180,000 vehicles daily.
Hours & Shift Pattern
- 45-hour contract (Monday–Friday)
- Rotating day and night shifts
- Day shift: 7:00am – 3:00pm
- Night shift: 7:00pm – 5:00am
Key Responsibilities
- Upholding high standards of workmanship
- Attending safety and project briefings
- Operating vehicles, plant, and machinery, including:
- Vehicle checks
- Routine maintenance (oil, water, etc.)
- Cleaning and upkeep
- Ensuring personal and team safety to comply with health and safety legislation and protect the public
- Keeping accurate records and completing paperwork
- Assessing and managing pedestrian and traffic control
- Performing site maintenance, including:
- Sign cleaning
- Drainage works
- Winter maintenance
- Litter picking and reactive response
- Conducting repairs to:
- Safety fencework
- Carriageway/footway patching
- Kerbing
- Ironwork replacement
- Drainage systems
- Incident response and general highway maintenance

Qualifications & Experience
✅ Full, valid driving licence (HGV Class 2 mandatory) ✅ Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions ✅ (Desirable) CSCS card ✅ Ability to perform highway maintenance tasks, including:
- Carriageway and footway patching
- Kerbing replacement
- Ironwork repair
- Drainage system maintenance
