About the Role
We are seeking a permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Area 7 account in Newark, based at:
Newark Depot Stephenson Way Newark NG24 2TQ
Our Responsibilities
As a key member of our team, you'll work with National Highways to maintain over 700 kilometres of roads across the East Midlands, ensuring a safer journey for 4.5 million citizens. Your role will include:
- Maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.
- Attending project and safety briefings as required.
- Operating and driving vehicles/plant (including general vehicle checks, maintenance, oil/water level checks, and cleaning).
- Ensuring safety compliance for yourself, your team, and protecting members of the public.
- Completing essential paperwork, orders, and records.
- Assessing, deploying, and removing pedestrian and traffic management solutions.
- Performing site management (sign cleaning, drainage repairs, general maintenance).
- Conducting litter picking and reactive works.
- Carrying out patching, sign installations/repairs, winter maintenance, and incident response operations.

Key Qualifications & Skills
To excel in this role, we require:
- A full driving licence (preferably HGV Class 2).
- Experience working outdoors in varying and challenging weather conditions.
- Preferred: CSCS card (desirable but not compulsory).
- Ability to perform:
- Highway maintenance tasks (e.g. carriageway/footway patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement, drainage maintenance).
- Self-reliance with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with communication tools (e.g., radios, situational awareness systems).
