Highways Supervisor

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Supervisor to join our Area 10 account in Runcorn, based on site at Preston Brook Depot, Chester Road, Preston Brook, WA7 3AT.

Collaborating closely with our client National Highways, Amey takes pride in delivering top-tier Maintenance and Response services, catering to the extensive network across the North West.

Our responsibilities encompass all routine and cyclic maintenance operations on trunk roads and motorways, covering an extensive estate that includes 1,450km of motorway and dual carriageway trunk roads, and approximately 500 structures.

The standard hours of work are 42 hours per week, operating a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, alternating between 4 x 12-hour night shifts and 4 x 12-hour day shifts.

What You’ll Do

  • Carry out site visits to ensure work is completed safely, to the required standards and in accordance with the programme, including undertaking HSEA site inspections in line with contract instructions
  • Provide technical support to operational teams as required
  • Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring correct use of PPE and compliance with safety standards
  • Carry out site safety and environmental inspections in line with contractual requirements
  • Ensure accurate recording of works by operatives on PDAs to support correct claims submission and compliance with CDM regulations
  • Arrange materials and traffic management to ensure works can be delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with specification
  • Confirm teams hold the correct permits and operate in line with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Prepare duty rotas for winter service and emergency response activities
  • Arrange and process overtime and timesheets in line with Standard Operating Model (SOM) principles
  • Work in liaison with OCR to ensure compliance with Working Time Directive and effective resource planning
  • Promote a positive approach within the team and wider community

What You’ll Bring

  • Full UK Driving Licence (LGV Class C desirable)
  • Previous experience working on Highways Maintenance contracts
  • Experience delivering emergency and winter service operations
  • Experience of performance monitoring and continuous improvement
  • Experience managing operational teams
  • Availability to work nights and weekends
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Good commercial awareness
