Location

Blackwall Tunnel, E14 9PS – Hybrid working available (with expectation of 3 days on-site).

Hours & Salary

  • 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday
  • £50,000–£60,000 per annum + car allowance + further benefits

About the Role

Join our TfL Tunnels & Pump Stations team as a Technology Operations Manager, playing a critical role in overseeing the technology workstream on our TfL contract. You'll coordinate technical delivery, manage subcontractor performance, and ensure our technology systems operate reliably across tunnel and pump station sites—while providing expert technical guidance to drive continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to make a real impact through collaborative work with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

As the Technology Operations Manager, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the primary point of contact with our technology subcontractor (Cubic), managing contractual commitments and ensuring smooth technical delivery.
  • Monitoring performance against KPIs, addressing issues promptively and implementing improvement plans to bolster system reliability.
  • Reviewing technical documentation, maintenance programmes, and method statements to verify alignment with contract specifications.
  • Providing engineering oversight for:
    • Communications systems
    • Control systems
    • Monitoring systems
    • Networked infrastructure within tunnels and pump stations
  • Supporting onsite activities, including:
    • Fault investigation
    • System diagnostics
    • Commissioning support
    • Coordination during critical incidents

Requirements

This role is ideal for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A degree or equivalent qualifications in a technology-focused engineering discipline, or equivalent highways and traffic technology experience.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors, particularly in technology, systems integration, or associated fields.
  • Strong knowledge of mainstream highways technologies, communications networks, and control systems.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills—able to build positive relationships and thrive in collaborative and independent environments.
  • A valid UK full driving licence (required for site visits).
