Hire Controller

**Job Title: Hire Controller

Location: Poole

Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 07:30 – 17:00 (42 hours per week)


About the Role

Speedy are the UK’s leading hire provider, offering a wide range of tools, specialist hire equipment, plant, and support services—everything for every job!

Based in the depot, the Hire Controller plays a key role in operations on the front line of sales and customer service. The success of this role relies heavily on relationship building, as the Hire Controller:

  • Coordinates the entire hire process—from receiving orders to delivery and collection.
  • Liaises with all depot departments to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction with a swift, smooth service.

While desk-based, this role requires regular interaction with:

  • Stock teams
  • Drivers
  • Engineers

The primary goal is to fulfil customer requirements with minimal delay, offering readily available equipment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the end-to-end hire process, from order placement to equipment delivery and collection.
  • Works closely with internal teams (stock, drivers, engineers) to optimise turnaround times.
  • Builds strong relationships with customers to retain business and foster long-term loyalty.
  • Ensures timely and accurate communication throughout the hire process.
  • Monitors equipment availability and adjusts orders as needed to meet demand.
  • Assists in maintaining high standards of service in line with Speedy’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple orders efficiently.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Adaptability—to handle varying demands and shifting priorities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • A full UK driving license (essential, as travel between locations will be required).
  • Previous experience in either:
    • The hire industry, or
    • A sales or operational role (relevant work experience in customer-facing positions is a plus).
  • Ability to align with Speedy’s ESG goals, particularly in the Decade to Deliver strategy.
