About the role
The Role
Are you an experienced people leader with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service?
We're looking for a proactive and driven Hire Manager to lead the day to day operation of the Hire Desk within our busy Plant & Tool division. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy developing teams, and want to play a key role in driving performance and revenue, this could be the next step in your career.
As Hire Manager, you'll take ownership of hire desk operations, leading a team of Hire & Sales Coordinators and Drivers to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-focused service. You'll balance operational control with commercial focus, ensuring high standards of compliance, administration, and sales performance across the depot.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and managing the day to day operation of the Hire Desk and Transport function
- Allocating, prioritising, and overseeing workloads for Hire & Sales Coordinators and Drivers
- Recruiting, motivating, coaching, and developing team members to achieve high performance
- Ensuring adequate staffing cover, including holidays, absence, and weekend attendance
- Driving add-on sales performance through proactive promotion of consumables and accessories
- Overseeing stock control of consumables and resale items to meet demand
- Ensuring accurate processing of on hires, off hires, exchanges, and transport activity

About You
What You'll Bring
We're looking for a confident leader with strong operational and commercial awareness, including:
- Proven experience managing a hire desk, transport operation, or similar customer-facing team
- Strong people management skills with the ability to coach and develop others
- Commercial focus with experience driving revenue and add-on sales
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure
- Strong communication skills with customers, staff, and stakeholders at all levels
- A solid understanding of Health & Safety within an operational environment
