Hire Manager
Hire Manager - Bedford Branch

About the Role
To support our Bedford branch operations—currently thriving due to the hard work and commitment of our branch staff—we are seeking a Hire Manager to join the team.
As the Hire Manager, you will:
- Coordinate branch hire operations, working with branch teams to ensure smooth completion of all customer hire requests and product requirements.
- Contribute to the profitable hire operation, utilising your expertise to optimise company profit and achieve branch targets through optimised use of assets at the best possible rates.
Main Responsibilities

Logistics: -Schedule branch transport, -Ensure collections of off-hire equipment, -Accurate planning and execution of deliveries based on customer schedules.

Accurate completion and filing of contract documentation and system paperwork.

Continuously review all re-hires to identify opportunities to upgrade equipment.

Ensure the Hire Team maintains accurate records and documentation.

Negotiate hire rates in accordance with company procedures, price lists, and discount policy.

Manage stock recording to keep the team fully prepared for customer demand.

Liaise with operational teams across hubs to streamline operations, eliminate duplication, and reduce downtime.

Ensure correct charges for damages and losses are billed, and liaise with customers for approval.

Promptly communicate all sales leads to the Sales Team.

Conduct telephone sales outreach to customers with dormant accounts, followed by collaborative follow-up with sales staff.

Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a supervisory role within pump rental (or similar fast-paced logistics business).
- Demonstrable experience running a busy hire desk.
- Experience in logistics, construction, or water utilities is advantageous.
- Proficiency with various software packages and rental management systems.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams video calls).
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Strong planning and organisation skills, able to reprioritise customer hires on short notice.
- Exceptional ability to multi-task, manage multiple queries, and resolve issues expeditiously for internal teams and customers—both internal and external.
- Professional and positive communication in all interactions.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence in leveraging your product knowledge to encourage additional sales opportunities from customers.
