Hiu & Mechanical Services is a specialist provider of Heat Interface Unit (HIU) engineering services, including pre-payment solutions for residential and commercial heating systems. Services cover the full lifecycle of HIU systems, from commissioning and routine servicing to repairs and support during breakdowns. Team members work closely with clients to maintain reliable, efficient, and safe heating systems, helping minimize downtime and optimize performance.
Role Description
The HIU Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in the London Area, United Kingdom. The engineer will carry out planned preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on HIU systems in residential and commercial properties. Day-to-day tasks include:

The role also involves:
- Responding to breakdowns
- Documenting work carried out
- Advising customers on system use and basic maintenance
- Working collaboratively with other mechanical and electrical professionals
The engineer is expected to:
- Follow health and safety procedures
- Maintain accurate records
- Travel between sites within the London area as required
Qualifications
- Strong technical knowledge of HIU systems, central heating, and associated mechanical services, including diagnostics, commissioning, and repairs.
- Experience with on-site service and maintenance work, including managing breakdowns, completing service reports, and liaising directly with customers or site managers.
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and work respectfully in occupied properties.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and manage time across multiple site visits.
- Relevant vocational qualifications or apprenticeships in mechanical engineering, plumbing, or building services (e.g., NVQ or equivalent), and a valid driver’s license for travel between sites.
- Previous experience in HIU engineering or district heating, and any manufacturer training or certifications, are highly beneficial.
