Home Delivery Driver

Colleague (Van Driver) – Delivery Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving and deliveries:

    • Operate a 3.5-tonne van to deliver groceries door-to-door, ensuring on-time and high-quality service.
    • Conduct pre-drive checks to verify the van’s organisation, cleanliness, roadworthiness, and secure case loads.
    • Navigate efficiently through diverse environments—busy residential streets, narrow country lanes, and varying property types.
  • Customer service:

    • Provide excellent doorstep service, including supporting customers with queries and substitutions.
    • Transparently communicate any delays and maintain a friendly, proactive approach.
    • Build expertise in Sainsbury’s products, promotions, and services to offer tailored recommendations.
  • Flexible store contributions:

    • Assist across the store when deliveries aren’t scheduled (e.g., restocking, stock checks, or other tasks during slow periods).

What Makes a Great Sainsbury’s Colleague?

You’ll thrive if you have:

  • Customer-focused personality:
    • A welcoming, enthusiastic attitude prior to delivering groceries directly to homes.
  • Driving proficiency:
    • Confident ability to operate a large vehicle safely in mixed locations (urban, rural, varied property access).
  • Flexibility and adaptability:
    • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with autonomy to problem-solve.
    • Flex to support store-wide needs when needed (e.g., operating during peak or off-peak hours).
  • Physical capability:
    • Comfort with moving heavy shopping containers (up to 15kg) and performing physical tasks.
  • Tech readiness:
    • Commitment to learning and using digital tools and innovations (e.g., AI-powered cabin cameras for monitoring safety compliance during deliveries).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
