Home Manager (Registered Nurse) – Apley Grange
At Apley Grange (run by Society of the Holy Child Jesus CIO), a well-established female-only residential and nursing home in Harrogate, we are proud to deliver high-quality residential, dementia, respite, and end-of-life care while placing dignity, respect, and person-centred support at the heart of everything we do.
Our secluded, tranquil setting close to The Stray encourages an environment where residents can fully enjoy life and truly feel at home. As we prepare for an exciting period of refurbishment, growth, and development, we are seeking an experienced and inspirational Home Manager (Registered Nurse)—or for an ambitious Deputy Manager seeking the next career step—to lead our team.
With staff turnover below 5%, we are confident this role will appeal to a forward-thinking, passionate professional.
About the Role
This senior position offers a rare opportunity to transform care delivery while managing occupancy growth and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership during expansion, refurbishment, and performance improvements.
- Community engagement to strengthen local partnerships and attract new residents.
- Care coordination to ensure tailored, person-centred support in a safe, compassionate setting.
- Facilitating family involvement in residents’ care journeys.
Current Vacancy:
- Full-time: 36 hours per week
- Start date: 1st January 2027
Prerequisites: A valid right to work in the UK is mandatory. We are unable to sponsor visas.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications & Credentials:
- NMC Registration (Registered Nurse) with a valid PIN.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a home of 50+ beds.
- Proven track record in managing a home with a high proportion of privately funded residents.
- Experience in dementia care and delivering compassionate end-of-life care.
- Experience transitioning an organisation through change and growth.
- Strong expertise in budget oversight, staff management, and clinical governance.
- Active CQC Registration (or eligibility).
- Demonstrated ability to achieve positive CQC inspection outcomes.
- Hands-on experience in clinical care delivery and staff supervision.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CQC regulations, nursing/wellbeing standards, and governance frameworks.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.

Desirable (but not essential):
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care (in progress or complete).

Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Operations:
- Maintain and uphold an influential, positive image of Apley Grange across all stakeholders (residents, relatives, clinical professionals).
- Lead the home through CQC inspections, ensuring consistent adherence to standards.
- Develop/implement care plans, policies, and procedures tailored to individual and household requirements.
- Allocate and oversee medication administration and personal care tasks, adhering to regulatory guidelines.

Occupancy & Marketing:
- Establish and nurture working relationships with local commissioners, GPs, and health teams to fortify the home’s reputation.
- Represent the entity at community events or promotional forums to attract future residents.

Resident Welfare:
- Foster a culture of empowerment—supporting residents in their autonomy while providing daily nursing/physiotherapy needs.
- Organise appointments, referrals, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborations to optimise health outcomes.

Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain a safe operational environment via proactive risk management and adherence to COMPLEX regulations (COSHH, HACCP, Care Standards Act, Hearth & Safety).

A one-stage interview will be held onsite at Apley Grange on Tuesday, 26th August 2024. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a site visit on Thursday, 24th August, or Friday, 25th August.
