Fixed Term or Secondment: Housing Options Lead Officer
Ref: H7296 (until 1 November 2027)
Are you passionate about tackling homelessness and looking for an exciting new challenge? This opportunity allows you to provide advice, support, and assistance to individuals at risk or experiencing homelessness.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Housing Options Lead Officer to lead the Homeless Prevention Team within our Housing Options Service. You will play a critical role in delivering compassionate, effective, and preventative housing solutions while aligning services with:
- Dacorum Borough Council’s Homelessness & Rough Sleeping Strategy
- Legal obligations towards individuals facing or experiencing homelessness
- Operational efficiency and joined-up service delivery
Your work will ensure that vulnerable members of the community receive the best possible support to maintain stable housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and assist individuals at risk of homelessness, ensuring services are preventative and proactive
- Ensure compliance with council policy, Homelessness Strategy, and legal obligations for high-need cases
- Maintain strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., housing providers, voluntary sector partners, other council teams)
- Contribute to integrated service delivery, cross-departmental projects, and the achievement of council-wide objectives
- Establish and uphold active operational management of housing response protocols
- Work closely with senior management to refine and implement best practice in housing interventions
- Support broader aims, including preventative measures to reduce homelessness covertly (rough sleeping)

Requirements
Technical & Professional
✔ Qualified social worker, welfare rights advisor, or relevant housing/support professional ✔ Experience in homelessness prevention, fair housing allocations, or welfare advice assessment ✔ In-depth knowledge of the Statutory Homelessness Duty, local council policies, and advocacy approaches ✔ Ability to advocate effectively for client interests while meeting procedural obligations

✔ Empathy, resilience, and sound judgement (working with highly vulnerable individuals) ✔ Strong interpersonal and crisis-management skills ✔ Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles ✔ Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders across sectors ✔ Self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments
Location & Logistics
📍 Office-based role within Dacorum Borough Council, requiring regular on-site presence and town-centre travel ✈ Valid UK driving licence (essential for casework travel to accommodate clients)

About Dacorum Borough Council
