About the Role: Hospitality & Chef Teacher
Do you want to transform your career and pass on your hospitality and catering experience to the next generation?
We are looking for a Chef to teach and support our Level 3 Culinary Arts provision within the Activate Learning Hospitality and Catering department at Oxford College. You will be responsible for the delivery, assessment, and tracking student achievement for the courses.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for an individual with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning. For example, a culinary arts student from one of our colleges has been crowned the Young Risotto Chef of the Year 2021 and we would love the candidate for this post to continue to drive competition experiences forward.
This is a permanent, part-time position working 26 hours per week (0.70 FTE) based at our City of Oxford College Campus. These days can be flexible for the right candidate.
What do you need to be a successful Hospitality & Chef Teacher at Activate Learning?
- You will have worked in the industry as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie and you will have a passion for using this experience to develop the skills of the future generation.
- Teaching experience is required for this role. In addition to having the necessary qualifications and industry experience to teach on our Hospitality and Catering courses, you must be able to demonstrate previous teaching experience and the attributes of an inspirational educator. We will support your continued professional development in the FE sector, but a background in teaching is essential.
- Communication with industry partners is also a requirement for this role as we work closely with hotel chains, local restaurants, and contract catering employers to supply work placement, apprenticeships, mentorships and masterclass demonstrations for our students.
Essential Requirements:
- Significant experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie
- A culinary qualification
Desirable Requirements:
- Teaching experience
- Teaching, assessing, and IQA qualifications

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
