Hospitality Manager – Props Charity
About the Role
Props Charity is a dedicated and much-loved charity focused on developing work and social skills for adults with learning disabilities. Through creative and practical work experiences, we empower individuals to gain confidence, independence, and meaningful employment pathways. As we evolve as part of the Bristol Charities Group, our ambition is to scale impact, expand operations, and further promote an inclusive community.
This is a visionary and hands-on leadership role within Props Bristol, responsible for managing the café and bakery operations across our key sites:
- Crafted Café
- Bakery at Props Bristol
- Café at the Vassall Centre
The Hospitality Manager leads commercial performance while embedding inclusive work opportunities for trainees and employees with learning disabilities and/or neurodivergence. This role blends business management, training delivery, and person-centred support in a fast-growing social enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Commercial Leadership
- Oversee the day-to-day management of all café and bakery operations to ensure consistency, quality, and sustainability as social enterprises.
- Drive excellent customer service, high standards of food and drink quality, and strong financial performance.
- Develop and implement operational policies and systems that align with Props’ ethos of inclusivity and sustainability.
- Monitor performance metrics, including revenue, market trends, and operational efficiency, to inform growth strategies.
- Manage vendor relationships, stock control, and waste minimisation to enhance profitability and environmental impact.

Support for Employees with Learning Disabilities & Neurodivergence
- Create and oversee meaningful employment opportunities for trainees and employees, empowering them to progress through structured support.
- Design personalised training programmes tailored to individual needs, fostering skill development in hospitality, teamwork, and independence.
- Provide consistent mentorship and on-the-job guidance to build confidence and prepare individuals for open employment outside the charity structure.
- Collaborate with our facilities, marketing, and fundraising teams to ensure seamless integration into Props’ wider objectives.
- Champion inclusivity in the workplace and advocate for systemic change in breaking down employment barriers for individuals with disabilities.
Team Development & Workplace Culture
- Lead and inspire a diverse team, encouraging collaboration, autonomy, and shared purpose, while embedding our charity’s mission-driven ethos.
- Foster a inclusive, supportive, and professional environment where both paid staff and trainees feel valued.
- Ensure rigorous safeguarding and upholding of health and safety standards at all sites.
- Represent Props externally when required to articulate the social impact and success of the café operations.
Requirements
First and foremost, we seek someone with passion for social enterprise and disability inclusion.
Essential Criteria
- Proven management experience in a hospitality, café, or bakery environment with a proven track record in ensuring high service and operational standards.
- Consistent management experience and development of staff training programmes, including supporting people with learning disabilities or neurodivergence, to empower progression into mainstream employment.
- Robust understanding of financial management, budgeting, and performance measurement.
- Strong leadership abilities with the ability to inspire a varied team, blend business acumen with inclusive support strategies, and drive continuous improvement.
- Commitment to Props’ values of sustainability, community-focused work, and innovation; previous experience in a charity or social enterprise is advantageous.
- Ability to work flexibly across different sites as required.

Desirable Criteria
- Experience in managing social enterprises, community cafés, or not-for-profit supply chain operations.
- Familiarity with Bristol area charity networks and embedded successful inclusive employment outcomes.
- Working knowledge of Я-spend or financial software (e.g., Zuora) is beneficial but not essential.
- A qualification in hospitality management or related field would be a plus.
- First-hand experience of autistic working or ADHD supportive practices in the workplace.
