About The Role

As a Host at The Savoy, you will be the welcoming face of our world-famous 5-star luxury hotels. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering an unforgettable experience to our guests—whether through friendly service, expert menu guidance, or understanding their needs from the moment they arrive.

Your Responsibilities

Your role is central to the guest experience—ensuring every visit to The Savoy is exceptional. Key duties include:

Guest Experience & Sales

  • Deliver a Forbes 5-star service, with a personalised and professional touch, focused on memorability.
  • Guide guests through menu selections with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable approach.
  • Handle reservations efficiently, sensitive to other guests’ booking details while maintaining a welcoming ambiance.
  • Upsell responsibly while enhancing the guest’s dining experience.
  • Share hidden gems about Savoy stories, promotions, and food preparation techniques.

Administrative & Operational Tasks

  • Adhere to health & safety policies, especially around food and beverage handling.
  • Manage stationery, menu printing, and any other administrative logistics to keep service seamless.
  • Maintain a polished, 5-star appearance, embodying our Sa bem structure (style, attitude, behaviour, approach, mindset).

Other Expectations

  • Be multi-skilled—colleagues are called upon to rotate skills based on operational needs.
  • Stay emotionally intelligent—adjusting guest interaction levels depending on preferences.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • 1-2 years of serving/hosting experience in luxury hospitality (solitaire, hotel dining, etc.).
  • Strong passion & understanding of 5-star service standards.
  • Natural empathy— reads people effortlessly and tailors guest interactions.
  • Quick-thinking, resourceful—able to problem-solve in real-time without hesitation.
  • Polished demeanour—always calm, courteous, and professional.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Team player—collaborates on our aflo system (aflo Business software).
  • Fluent in speaking & written English at a professional level.
  • Willingness to work after-hours, including whole weekends and public holidays.

Desirable Qualities

  • Knowledge of POS systems or Open Table administration.
  • WSET or other industry certifications (such as SAQA—South African Wine Tasting).
  • Familiarity with PMS/Systems (such as Opera) for efficient operations.
