Host and Catering Assistant/Kitchen Porter

Title: Kitchen Support | Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) | Dunedin, Reading

At Spire Dunedin Hospital, located in Reading, we're seeking a Host and Catering Assistant to join our warm and friendly team on a permanent basis. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to deliver excellent service in a private healthcare environment where quality and care come first.

About the Role

For over 100 years, Spire Dunedin Hospital has served the Reading community as a first-class medical facility. Offering two theatres, 16 inpatient beds, three recovery bays, Oncology services, and an Endoscopy Suite, the hospital is dedicated to exceptional care while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.

Working Hours

Monday – Sunday, 07:00 – 20:30

Responsibilities

  • Support the catering team in delivering a high standard of service to patients, including assisting with menu choices, serving meals, and ensuring timely refreshments
  • Assist chefs in basic food preparation and stock rotation, while maintaining cleanliness in restaurant and kitchen areas
  • Provide friendly, attentive service to patients, visitors, and colleagues with a professional and approachable manner
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and contribute to a calm, welcoming environment

Requirements

  • Essential: Previous experience in catering (similar environments preferred)
  • Essential: Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced setting
  • A positive, flexible attitude with strong communication skills
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism
