I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Personality and potential are top of our hiring wish list, but experience in a customer-facing hospitality job would be a big benefit. We need people who are open, welcoming and who know what great customer service looks like - the kind of person you'd like to meet after a long day of travelling! You could be in our bar and restaurant serving guests, pulling pints, taking orders and checking everything spick and span. As we're all one big team, you may also be checking guests in and out, answering questions and supporting them during your stay. You could be working a mix of midweek, weekend, early and late shifts for flexibility in your schedule would be a big advantage. As you'll be serving alcohol, we do require applicants to be 18 years of age or older.
