Hotel Kitchen Team Leader (Kitchen Shift Leader Equivalent) – Shrewsbury Town Centre Premier Inn

About the Role

Join our team at Shrewsbury Town Centre Premier Inn and take your career as a chef to the next level as a Kitchen Team Leader. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll manage daily operations, from orchestrating a high-functioning kitchen team during peak services to maintaining food quality, hygiene, and stock control. With full ownership of the kitchen—under the guidance of your Hotel Manager—you’ll develop essential skills to progress to senior roles like Head Chef.

Your responsibilities span operational leadership, training team members, and ensuring every dish meets our high standards—whether it’s an iconic Premier Inn breakfast or a classic pub meal.

Position Summary

  • Hours: 40 per week (flexible shifts possible)

Key Responsibilities

As Kitchen Team Leader, your role involves:

  • Operational Leadership:
    • Manage the kitchen organisation, including team rosters, workload assignment, and workflow during service to ensure efficiency.
    • Own food ordering and stock control, monitoring daily inventory to minimise waste and budget costs.
    • Oversee kitchen hygiene, safety, and compliance, maintaining records and ensuring all staff are trained.

  • Team Management & Development:

    • Train and support team members during busy periods and assist new staff in settling into their roles.
    • Build a motivated, high-performing kitchen team that delivers consistency and quality.
  • Food Preparation & Execution:

    • Ensure all dishes are prepared and served to menu specifications—from breakfasts to pub classics.
    • Handle stock management to maintain food quality and competitive pricing.
  • Flexible Responsibility:

    • Step in for shifts as needed and participate in dailydeep-down tasks to maintain kitchen excellence.
  • Progression Mindset:

    • Apply leadership and management skills to prepare for future requirements at the Head of Kitchen/Head Chef level.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen leadership or team leader role in hospitality or similar environment is essential.
  • Handling servers with regularity (busy premises) and resource management skills.
  • A commitment to delivering an outstanding guest experience with the knowledge that consistency and reliability are the foundations of it.
  • A strong desire to lead, mentor, and develop your career within a fast-paced environment.

Ideal Traits (Nice to Have):

  • Qualifications or experience in hotel/hospitality management, culinary studies or chef training.
  • Knowledge of hygiene regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and team-building abilities.
