We are seeking a Lecturer in Counselling to join our team. In this role you will undertake the full spectrum of teaching, learning, assessment, and academic support activities across a range of modules within the University Centre Colchester, School of Social Sciences.

The postholder will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality Higher Education counselling programmes, supporting the training and professional development of students enrolled on the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited Diploma in Higher Education and BA (Hons) pathways. They will plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and inclusive teaching, facilitate the development of students' theoretical knowledge and counselling skills, assess student work in accordance with academic and professional standards, and contribute to curriculum enhancement and quality assurance processes. The successful candidate will foster a supportive and reflective learning environment, ensuring that students develop the knowledge, competencies, and ethical practice required for progression within the counselling profession.

Job title: Hourly Paid Lecturer - Counselling

Fixed Term Contract, Part Time

6 Hours a week, 38 weeks per year.

About the role:

  • Comprehensive teaching responsibilities (designing schemes of work, assessing, preparation, delivery, marking, leading on student guidance and selection procedures, individual student tutoring and marketing/promoting courses/attending Open events which may incur the occasional evening work).
  • Work with the programme leaders to ensure a sustainable curriculum is being offered and developed to ensure that the UCC courses are able to be proactive to regional and national employment demands.
  • Work with the Course leader, Head of School and Assistant of Head of School to ensure a sustainable curriculum is being offered and developed to ensure that the UCC courses are able to be proactive to regional and national employment demands.
  • Lead on modelling best practice through the development of subject curricula to include Technology Enhanced Learning and innovative delivery methods.
  • Contribute to enhancing the quality of programme and subject delivery, using the College quality assurance systems and contribute to the work of appropriate committees and boards.
  • A flexibility and willingness to provide short notice cover for planned and non-planned events if required.
  • Apply Colchester Institute Health and Safety Policy and model best practice at all times.

Essential Experience:

  • Counselling experience of 2 years (minimum) post qualifying.
  • To be currently in professional practice.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Counselling
  • Registration with the BACP
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
