Household Recycling Operative – Waste Management Team
Location: Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, SL6 1AY Salary: £14.86 per hour + excellent benefits Schedule: Fixed-Term Contract (3 months), 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (rota) Summer shift hours: 8am – 8pm Winter shift hours: 8am – 4:30pm
About the Role
Ready to impact a better future? As a Household Recycling Operative in our Waste Management team, you’ll play a vital role in helping communities recycle responsibly, keeping sites safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone who visits.
Your work will support positive environmental outcomes, creating a visible impact on local communities. By guiding members of the public on correct waste segregation, you’ll help:
- Increase recycling quality
- Reduce contamination
- Contribute to a cleaner future
Key Responsibilities
You will be entrusted with the following duties:
- Assist with opening and closing the household waste recycling site, adhering to site procedures
- Support members of the public in safely disposing of waste and recycling correctly
- Promote recycling and environmental awareness among site users
- Monitor waste segregation and remove contamination where necessary
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organisation across the site
- Operate plant, tools, and equipment safely in line with training and instructions

Requirements
You’ll excel in this role if you have:
- A strong customer service mindset and a passion for working with the public
- A practical understanding of waste types and recycling, or the willingness to learn
- Good communication skills with basic literacy and numeracy
- Physical fitness, with comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions
- A proactive, flexible approach, able to work independently or collaboratively
Vetting and Checks:
- Eligibility to work in the UK will be verified
- An Occupational Health Questionnaire will be completed to support your role
